Mbappe Knee Injury Update: Real Madrid Opts For Conservative Treatment

Kylian Mbappe will undergo additional tests on his left knee, with Real Madrid confirming no surgery is planned. The club will pursue a conservative treatment approach to optimise recovery and readiness for upcoming fixtures, including Champions League and La Liga obligations.

Kylian Mbappe is set for more medical checks on a left knee problem, with Real Madrid opting against surgery for now. The forward has travelled to Paris for assessment and will not feature against Getafe in LaLiga on Monday, as the club monitor the external ligament issue that has troubled Mbappe in recent weeks.

The France captain already sat out Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Benfica in the second leg of their Champions League play-off last Wednesday. Coach Alvaro Arbeloa stressed on Sunday that France’s World Cup plans will not influence how Madrid handle Mbappe’s fitness, with decisions based only on medical guidance and club priorities.

Mbappe Knee Injury Update: Conservative Plan

Real Madrid released a statement confirming a cautious course of action, explaining that Mbappe is undergoing detailed tests rather than immediate surgery. The club said: "In agreement with the club, he is undergoing further tests on his knee with the aim of optimising his follow-up care and preparing for his comeback, Madrid said in a statement. No surgical intervention is being planned at the moment." The current focus is on managing the ligament complaint conservatively.

Despite the current setback, Mbappe has delivered heavily since the end of the Club World Cup. Mbappe has scored 38 goals and added five assists for Madrid in all competitions in that spell. Across Europe’s top five leagues, only Harry Kane has more direct goal contributions in that period, with 50.

Madrid now move into a busy run without Mbappe available for at least one more match. After facing Getafe, Madrid visit Celta Vigo on Friday. Manchester City then await at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 11, in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, with Mbappe’s involvement still uncertain.

The situation leaves Madrid balancing short-term squad needs with long-term protection of Mbappe’s knee. The conservative plan keeps surgery off the table for now, while tests in Paris guide the next steps. Both Madrid and France will watch the results closely, given Mbappe’s recent form and the approaching World Cup campaign.
