Mbappe's Debut Goal Seals Real Madrid's Record Sixth Super Cup Win

Kylian Mbappe marked his Real Madrid debut with a goal, contributing to a 2-0 win against Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup. This victory marks a record sixth title for Los Blancos in the competition.

Kylian Mbappe marked his Real Madrid debut with a goal, helping the team secure a 2-0 victory against Atalanta in Warsaw. This win allowed Los Blancos to claim the UEFA Super Cup for a record sixth time. Mbappe's goal came after 68 minutes, following Jude Bellingham's assist, sealing the win for the Champions League holders.

Federico Valverde opened the scoring nine minutes before Mbappe's goal. Vinicius Junior set up Valverde by driving to the byline and cutting back for an easy finish from close range. This breakthrough came just before the hour mark, giving Madrid control of the match.

Mbappe's Goal Wins Super Cup

The first half saw few chances, with Madrid's best opportunity coming in stoppage time when Rodrygo hit the crossbar after receiving a pass from Vinicius. Thibaut Courtois made a crucial save early in the second half, denying Mario Pasalic's header and keeping the score level.

This victory was significant as it marked Real Madrid's sixth UEFA Super Cup win, surpassing Milan and Barcelona for the most titles in the competition. Three of these victories have come under Carlo Ancelotti’s management (2014, 2022, and 2024). Ancelotti also led Milan to Super Cup triumphs in 2003 and 2007.

Ancelotti now holds the record for most Super Cup wins by a coach with five victories, moving ahead of Pep Guardiola who has four. This achievement underscores Ancelotti’s success and consistency in European competitions over his career.

Debut Goals and Historical Context

Mbappe became the first Real Madrid player to score on his competitive debut since Jude Bellingham did so against Athletic Bilbao a year ago. He is also the first to achieve this feat in the Super Cup since Marco Asensio scored against Sevilla in 2016.

Vinicius Junior had another chance to score but was denied by Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso during a one-on-one situation. Despite this miss, Madrid maintained their dominance throughout the match, showcasing their attacking prowess.

Madrid capitalised on Courtois' crucial save by taking control of the game shortly after. The team’s newfound confidence was evident as they continued to press forward, leading to Mbappe’s decisive goal.

Madrid’s performance highlighted their strength and depth, with key contributions from new signings like Mbappe and established stars such as Vinicius and Courtois. This blend of talent bodes well for their upcoming season as they aim for further success domestically and in Europe.
