In an unexpected turn of events, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has announced a significant change to the Merdeka Tournament 2023, scheduled for October 10, 2023. The tournament landscape has shifted as Palestine, initially part of the competition, withdrew at the last minute.

Consequently, the tournament now comprises three teams: India, Tajikistan, and the hosts, Malaysia. As per the original schedule, India is set to face Malaysia at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on October 13, vying for a place in the final.

The victorious team will then go head-to-head with Tajikistan in what promises to be a thrilling showdown on October 17.

Strength

Indian football stars like Sunil Chhetri, Sandesh Jhingan, Nandhakumar Sekar, Liston Colaco, Anirudh Thapa, Sahal Abdul Samad, and Lalchungnunga have demonstrated remarkable potential in the Indian Super League (ISL).

Coach Igor Stimac believes that the team's unity and strength will give them an edge when facing Malaysia, citing their successful record, including three domestic victories, as evidence of their progress.

Additionally, India's centreback, Sandesh Jhingan, is eagerly counting down the minutes to their match against Malaysia, a nation that holds special meaning for him during his early years.
