World Cup 2014: Peralta gives Mexico 1-0 victory against Cameroon

Natal (Brazil), June 13: Mexico had a smile at the 61st minute when Oribe Peralta scored following a fumble by Cameroon's goalkeeper Charles Intandje in their first match in the 2014 Fifa World Cup on Friday. The goal went on to give Mexico their first win in this year's edition.

Earlier, The Mexicans saw two goals, both scored by Giovanni Dos Santos, getting cancelled by the game officials. While Santos was ruled offside after he scored in the 11th minute, his score from a header in the 29th minute was cancelled when referee Wilmer Roldan called a foul in front of the opponent goalkeeper.

Cameroon also saw one of their goals getting disallowed at the 16th minute when Choupo Moting netted the ball but Samuel Eto'o was declared offside.

The match, hit by a heavy downpour, was goalless till the interval.

Two of Mexico's goals scored by Dos Sontos were cancelled

The decisions earned the ire of former football great like Gary Linekar who said the officials had an ordinary beginning in this World Cup [read here]. On Thursday, a massive controversy broke out after the Japanese referee gifted a penalty to hosts Brazil in their match against Croatia.

Group A comprises Brazil, Mexico, Croatia and Cameroon.
