Mikel Arteta confirms Arsenal set to miss key duo 'for weeks'

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed key Arsenal duo will be out for a 'few weeks' after muscular injuries.

Arsenal are set to play Sheffield United in the Premier League on Saturday (October 28), and ahead of the match, Arteta spoke in the pre-match press conference on Friday.

The Gunners manager was asked about Gabriel Jesus, who was taken off in their UEFA Champions League match against Sevilla. The Brazilian striker was excellent and was instrumental in Arsenal's 2-1 win in Spain, scoring a goal and having an assist.

But he was injured and had to come off during the match. And upon asked on Jesus' status, the Gunners boss has confirmed that the player will be on the sidelines for the next few weeks.

"The scan shows that there is a muscle injury and we might lose him for a few weeks again. With Gabby I cannot give you any timeframe because he always surprises us, but there is something there," Arteta said.

"He felt it in a really awkward action and it's true he's had quite a lot of load in the last few weeks with the national team and then playing those games, which he hasn't done in a long, long time. That's really bad news for us," he added.

Another player who is set to miss the Sheffield match is Thomas Partey. Arsenal's Ghanaian midfielder is also struggling with a muscular issue and the Spaniard confirmed that Partey is also among the casualties list.

"He's got a muscle injury and we are expecting him to be out for a few weeks. We don't really know the extent of it and he has more tests today, but he picked up that injury in a training session with the last kick of the ball before Sevilla, so it was very unfortunate," the Arsenal boss concluded.

Arsenal host the Blades at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. The North London outfit is still unbeaten in the league and have 21 points after 9 matches, two points off league-leaders Tottenham Hotspur.
