Mikel Arteta signs new deal with Arsenal, set to stay till 2027

Arsenal have tied down Mikel Arteta with a new deal for three seasons. The Gunners manager has signed a fresh term with the club.

As per reports from The Athletic, Arteta has signed a three-year-long deal at the club, which will keep him at least till the 2026-27 season.

Arteta was in the final year of his contract at the end of this season. Although the club and the Spaniard are on excellent terms, even the slightest of confusion is now removed as he has now penned a new deal.

This will come as a massive boost for the North London club amid selection woes. Arsenal are set to play arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in a North London derby, but they will be out with some key players.

Declan Rice will be missing the high-voltage clash with a suspension, whereas captain Martin Odegaard suffered an ankle problem while on international duty and looks set to miss the match.

Arteta cleared doubts about his future last month and indicated a fresh term was coming soon.

"I don't think anybody has to panic. We have done it in the past and it has never been an issue - and I don't expect that to happen. We are on it and we will take care of that in the right moment. The focus has been on the transfer window. We had quite a lot of things to do and discuss," Arteta said when asked about his future.

"I'm in the place where I want to be and am really happy - hopefully the club thinks the same thing. I work with the players every day and when I am talking to them, having discussions and planning things, you sense in their eyes that belief and hunger is still there," he added.

Mikel Arteta has been an instrumental figure at the club since replacing Unai Emery in December 2020. The Spaniard has been a catalyst of Arsenal's upsurge in recent times, which saw the London club pushing and challenging for the Premier League title in the last couple of years. They finished 2nd in the league table twice in last two seasons, and also returned to the UEFA Champions League last year after a seven-year hiatus.
