Milan's recent 1-0 victory over Monza in Serie A has positioned them seventh in the league. This win was secured by a header from Tijjani Reijnders. Despite this success, Paulo Fonseca, Milan's manager, downplayed the significance of their upcoming Champions League match against Real Madrid. He emphasised that every game holds equal importance for him.
Fonseca expressed his belief in teamwork, stating that modern football demands collective effort. "I am always fired up for every game and do not think that Real Madrid is any more important than what we played tonight," he told Sky Sports Italia. He stressed the need for his team to function cohesively, which is their ongoing goal.

The first half against Monza saw Milan struggle as Monza dominated but failed to score. Fonseca admitted concerns about their lack of aggression and failure to win individual battles. "I was concerned in the first half as we weren’t aggressive enough and didn’t win enough individual duels," he noted. However, adjustments made during halftime led to a stronger second-half performance.
Looking ahead to the match against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu, Fonseca remains unfazed by the challenge of facing the 15-time European champions. Speaking to DAZN, he stated, "On Tuesday, we face Real, but it doesn’t matter if it’s Real Madrid or any other team; we need points to improve our position in the standings." His focus remains on securing points to enhance their standing in the Champions League.
Rafael Leao made a significant impact when he entered late in the game against Monza. He nearly scored twice towards the end of the match. Fonseca praised Leao's performance: "He came on well; it is important to have this reaction from Rafa and that's what I want to see." Fonseca believes Leao is ready for the upcoming clash with Madrid.
Despite being crowned European champions seven times, Milan currently sits 25th in the revamped Champions League standings after earning three points from three matches. Fonseca hopes for a memorable night against Real Madrid that will benefit everyone involved with Milan.
Fonseca's approach highlights his commitment to treating each match with equal seriousness while focusing on teamwork and improvement. His leadership aims to guide Milan through challenging fixtures with determination and unity.
