Sergio Conceicao emphasised that AC Milan's storied past in the Champions League won't guarantee victories in this year's tournament. Despite Milan's seven titles, second only to Real Madrid's 15, their last win was against Liverpool in 2006-07. Since then, their best performance was reaching the semi-finals in 2022-23, where they lost to Inter.
Currently, Milan have shown promise in their first six matches this season, sitting 12th in the 36-team standings. They are just a point away from automatic knockout qualification. Historically, when Milan have won five or more consecutive matches in the competition, they reached the final but finished as runners-up both times.

Conceicao's team is facing challenges securing a spot among Europe's elite next year. They are eighth in Serie A, nine points behind the top four. After winning the Supercoppa Italiana, Milan managed only one victory in their next three league games, including a 2-0 defeat by Juventus at Allianz Stadium.
Conceicao remarked on the importance of each game being unique and motivating. "Big teams like Milan have to work every year to be there," he stated. He stressed that trophies don't play; it's the players who make a difference on the pitch.
Milan might miss Christian Pulisic for their upcoming match at San Siro due to a muscle issue. Pulisic has been crucial for Milan this season with nine goal involvements. Conceicao mentioned Pulisic's participation depends on training outcomes and prioritised his long-term fitness over immediate risk.
Despite some fan protests against club owners this season, Conceicao urged supporters to rally behind the team. "They have to support us; they have to be the 12th man," he said. He highlighted that without fans' passion, the club lacks its essence.
Girona stands at 30th place in the Champions League table with three points. A loss on Wednesday would end their European journey early. They've lost five out of six games this term; Villarreal is the only Spanish team with six losses in one season back in 2011-12.
A win for Milan would secure their playoff spot while aiming for a top-eight finish to automatically qualify for the last 16. Conceicao remains focused on ensuring his team performs well and maintains continuity throughout both domestic and international competitions.
