Leao's Late Goal Earns Milan A Draw At Lazio, Yet First Win Still Out Of Reach

Rafael Leao helped Milan salvage a 2-2 draw with Lazio, yet the team remains winless this Serie A season. Despite leading initially, Milan saw Lazio take the lead before Leao's intervention ensured a point for Paulo Fonseca's side.

Rafael Leao came off the bench to secure a 2-2 draw for Milan against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico. Despite this, Paulo Fonseca's team remains winless in Serie A this season. Strahinja Pavlovic gave Milan an early lead with a header from Christian Pulisic's corner in the eighth minute.

Lazio responded strongly in the second half. Valentin Castellanos equalised in the 62nd minute, meeting Nuno Tavares' cross. Boulaye Dia then put Lazio ahead four minutes later, tapping in another Tavares cutback.

Milan Draws at Lazio, Winless Run Continues

Fonseca made four substitutions that quickly paid off. Theo Hernandez, who started on the bench alongside Leao, set up Tammy Abraham. Abraham's lay-off allowed Leao to escape Tavares and score past Ivan Provedel.

The match began with a tribute to Sven-Goran Eriksson, who passed away at 76 on Monday. A Lazio shirt with his name was displayed on the home bench, and fans held a banner reading: "You brought us to the top of the world... Have a good trip Mr. Sven."

New Milan manager Fonseca is already feeling pressure after only securing two points from three league games. This is the first time since the 2011-12 season that Milan has drawn two of their opening three Serie A matches.

Historical Context and Future Prospects

In the 2011-12 season, Milan finished second, just four points behind Juventus. If they aim for a title challenge this term, significant improvements are necessary.

The game ended level at the Olimpico, reflecting Milan's ongoing struggles under Fonseca's leadership. The team needs rapid progress to compete for the title this season.
