AC Milan are temporarily setting aside thoughts of their upcoming derby against Inter Milan. Their immediate focus is on securing a spot in the Champions League round of 16, as stated by Sergio Conceicao. Currently sixth in the Champions League standings, Milan can bypass the knockout stage with a win against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday. In Serie A, they sit seventh, trailing Inter by 16 points.
Despite needing to improve domestically, Conceicao emphasised that his attention is solely on the Zagreb match. "I think game-by-game, I don't make calculations two games at a time," he mentioned during a press conference. The primary goal was winning the Super Cup, which they achieved. Now, their focus is on finishing in the top eight of the Champions League.

Milan's recent victory over Inter in the Italian Super Cup final marked Conceicao's second game in charge. They triumphed 3-2 at the start of January. However, Conceicao believes it's too early to discuss winning the Champions League and stresses caution. "There are many games left; the goal is to finish in the top four [in Serie A]," he stated.
Dinamo Zagreb must defeat Milan to keep their play-off hopes alive. They currently trail 24th place by two points and need a win to advance. Conceicao remains focused on this challenge before considering domestic matches or further European ambitions.
Conceicao plans to consider the derby only after returning from Zagreb. "We are focused on this match; we will think about the derby on Thursday on the plane returning home," he said. This approach highlights his commitment to prioritising one game at a time.
Milan's strategy reflects their desire for success across competitions while maintaining realistic expectations. By concentrating on immediate objectives, they aim to secure their position both domestically and in Europe without overlooking any challenges ahead.
