Milan Unity Urged By Leao After Draw With Como As Inter Threat Grows

Rafael Leao urged AC Milan fans to stay united after a 1-1 home draw with Como, amid a costly mistake by goalkeeper Maignan. With Inter in the lead, Milan must improve in attack and maintain collective focus as they chase the Serie A title.

AC Milan stayed seven points behind Serie A leaders Inter after a 1-1 home draw with Como, extending Massimiliano Allegri’s unbeaten league run to 24 matches but losing further ground in the Scudetto race. Allegri received a red card late on, while Rafael Leao rescued a point and later appealed for calm and unity from AC Milan supporters.

Leao recognised the damage caused by dropped points at San Siro but pushed the message of togetherness. The forward underlined that the squad remains focused on climbing the Serie A table, despite frustration. Leao stressed the need for a strong response in the next fixtures as AC Milan continue to chase Inter in the title battle.

Leao calls for Milan unity after draw

AC Milan fell behind just after the half-hour when Nico Paz punished a major error from Mike Maignan, who played a loose pass straight into danger, gifting Paz a ninth league goal of the 2025-26 campaign. Como’s advantage lasted into the second half, before Leao levelled with a precise lob over Jean Butez to secure a point.

Leao did not hide disappointment with the overall display against Cesc Fabregas’ Como side. He told DAZN, "It was a match we should have won, the Milan forward told DAZN. We played much better than in the last game against them. We had more possession, but in the first half, we could have been more decisive in front of goal."

Leao continued his detailed assessment of AC Milan’s Serie A performance in the second period. "We concededthe goal and then continued to play, but in the second half, we should have been more determined with the final cross. This is an important moment in the season, and I ask the fans to all be united." The comments highlighted both regret and determination.

Rafael Leao AC Milan Serie A numbers and support cast

Across the 2025-26 Serie A season, Leao has eight goals in 18 league appearances, already matching his previous campaign total of eight from 34 matches. Leao also contributed two assists, which means the Portugal international is the second player, after Lautaro Martinez, to register at least 10 goal involvements in each of the last six Serie A seasons.

Leao’s productivity against Como again stood out, although support from AC Milan teammates sometimes appeared limited in attack. Much of the creative burden fell on Leao, especially once Como dropped deeper after scoring. AC Milan dominated possession yet struggled to convert pressure into clear chances, despite the need to keep pace with Inter in the title race.

AC Milan Serie A title chase and Maignan relationship for Rafael Leao

The turning point of the match came from Maignan’s stray pass, yet Leao defended the goalkeeper and highlighted a strong personal bond. "He's a very important person to me, Leao said of Maignan. We played together at Lille, and he helps me every day on the pitch. He was an extra support; it was a difficult moment after the mistake."

The forward also praised the wider AC Milan dressing room. "The group is fantastic;we have the energyto aim for great things." Allegri’s dismissal following a touchline incident added more drama, but Leao maintained that the squad remains calm under pressure, focusing on performance rather than the growing Serie A gap to Inter.

Leao reflected on the wider Serie A schedule and AC Milan’s position in the Scudetto race. "There are so many games, Serie A is becoming very difficult, he added. We're looking for our own games, we wanted to win today. Now we're trying to win the next one in a few days, and then we'll see. We're aiming to move up." The draw kept hopes alive but underlined the need for sharper displays.
