Inter Miami will challenge Minnesota United in an MLS match on Saturday (May 10) at Allianz Field in St. Paul, USA. However, the participation of Lionel Messi in today’s match is still a question among the fans.
Recently, the Herons have been going through a rough patch despite having a great start to the season. Before the last match, they had lost three matches straight in all competitions, and these losses knocked them out of the CONCACAF Champions Cup and also ended their unbeaten run in MLS. The Herons now sit fourth in the Eastern Conference standings, accumulating 21 points from 10 matches, with a match in hand.

Messi, who has played a pivotal role in Miami’s attack throughout the tournament, has been the subject of ongoing fitness concerns over the past two months, especially after a recent minor adductor injury prevented him from joining Argentina in March. Despite missing several games, the Argentine remains Inter Miami’s top scorer this season with 9 goals across all competitions.
Still, Messi has been spotted leaving the field early in some recent games, such as the 4-1 victory on May 3 against the New York Red Bulls. These instances continue to spark doubts regarding his current fitness and injury condition.
Nevertheless, Miami head coach Javier Mascherano has clarified the situation. He stated, “Well, Leo is a competitive person, that\'s normal. Those of us who have known him for a long time know how demanding he is – not only with himself, but with everything around him.” Mascherano also added, “But yes, he\'s fine.” As a result, Lionel Messi is expected to be available for today’s game.
Inter Miami MLS 2025: Key Players Who Miss Today\'s Match against Minnesota United
Luis Suarez is among the key players Inter Miami will miss during their trip to face Minnesota United. Mascherano confirmed that the Uruguayan had to miss the match due to personal commitments, ruling him out of the squad for the fixture. Additionally, he noted that goalkeeper Drake Callender is unavailable because of an injury.
Mascherano commented, “Drake is injured, and the club will announce his condition later. As for the rest of the players, Luis has had to travel for personal reasons, and everyone else, except for David Ruiz, is training.”
With Suarez sidelined, Mascherano suggested Lionel Messi as one of the potential options to lead the line. “Leo is another possibility, like the one I mentioned earlier. Leo has even played in that position when Luis left,” he explained.
