Luka Modric has set high expectations for his new team, AC Milan, urging them to aim beyond just securing a Champions League spot next season. After leaving Real Madrid, where he enjoyed 13 successful years, Modric joined Milan, his childhood club. He believes that a club of Milan's calibre should not settle for mediocrity and must strive for trophies across various competitions.

Modric's move comes as Milan seeks to recover from a challenging season. They finished eighth in Serie A, exited the Champions League in the knockout stages, and lost the Coppa Italia final. Modric signed a one-year contract with the Rossoneri and is determined to see them compete at the highest level. "We remember Milan as one of the best teams in the world," he stated. "The minimum objective is to qualify for the Champions League, but Milan must also fight to win trophies."

The Croatian midfielder, who will soon turn 40, has been an avid follower of Italian football since childhood. He is optimistic about adapting quickly after spending over a decade in Spain. "I can offer my experience," Modric said. "I will work hard, give my all and try to do the same things that I did elsewhere." He acknowledges the high expectations surrounding him but feels prepared for this new challenge.

Despite AC Milan's disappointing performance last season, they managed some impressive victories, including a win against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. Modric highlighted this match as evidence of the squad's potential. "Clearly, last season did not go well for Milan," he noted. "But if Milan play the way they did at the Bernabeu last season, we must understand why they couldn't always play like that."

Modric is eager to adjust to Serie A's unique style of play, which he finds distinct from La Liga due to its organisation and tactical approach. "I watch a lot of Serie A because there are so many Croatian players," he explained. "The teams are really well-organised and this makes it different to La Liga." He emphasised the need for quick adaptation to contribute effectively.
