Mohamed Salah Departure From Liverpool: Heartfelt Thanks As He Confirms Exit

Mohamed Salah confirms he will leave Liverpool at season's end, expressing gratitude to fans and teammates. The Egyptian star outlines his nine-year impact, flagship honours, and the deep bond with the city, while signalling uncertainty about his next move as a free agent.

Mohamed Salah confirmed that the 2025-26 campaign will be the last with Liverpool, thanking supporters for "the best time of my life" as the forward prepares to depart as a free agent after nine seasons, eight major trophies and a place among the club’s most prolific scorers.

Liverpool announced on Tuesday that the agreement ends Salah’s stay one year before his contract expires, bringing to a close a spell that began with a transfer from Roma in 2017 and includes two Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph.

Mohamed Salah bids farewell to Liverpool

Across all competitions for Liverpool, Salah has scored 255 goals, placing third on the club’s all-time list. In league play, Salah has recorded 284 goal contributions, a figure surpassed only by Alan Shearer with 324 and Wayne Rooney with 311, underlining how productive the Egypt captain has been in England.

Those numbers followed a 2023-24 season in which Salah matched the Premier League single-season record for combined goals and assists, finishing with 47 goal involvements. Form has been less explosive this term, with 10 goals and nine assists in 34 appearances in all competitions, yet Salah has remained a regular starter.

Speaking directly to Liverpool fans in a video message, Salah opened an emotional farewell, stressing how deeply the club has shaped life for Salah and family. "Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell, Salah said in a video posted to social media. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club. It's a passion. It's a history. It's a spirit I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club. We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies, and we fought together through the hardest time of our life."

"Your mentality is second to none and a lot of people could take note. You have pushed yourself every single day and always demanded more from yourself and others. A pleasure sharing the pitch with you for so long, but even more so, being able to call you a friend. You deserve a send-off that reflects your status at LFCthe greatest. Second to none."

Another long-time colleague, Trent Alexander-Arnold, now at Real Madrid after leaving Anfield last summer, also recognised Salah’s impact and called the forward a legend in a social media message, adding: "Some journey brother."

Salah’s farewell brings an era of sustained success at Liverpool to a close, with statistics, silverware and tributes from peers underlining the influence exerted over nine years, while the next chapter of Salah’s career, as well as Liverpool’s attack, remains undecided heading into the 2026-27 season.
