Mohamed Salah Discusses Liverpool Contract Uncertainty Following Strong Performance Against Manchester City

Mohamed Salah reflects on his uncertain future with Liverpool amid a stellar performance against Manchester City. He acknowledges the mental toll of his contract situation while celebrating his record-equalling contributions in the Premier League.

Mohamed Salah has expressed uncertainty about his future at Liverpool, admitting that his contract situation is weighing on his mind. In a commanding 2-0 victory over Manchester City at Anfield, Salah assisted Cody Gakpo's opening goal and scored the second. This performance marked the 36th time Salah has both scored and assisted in a Premier League match, equalling Wayne Rooney's record.

Despite his impressive form this season, Salah's future remains unclear as Liverpool has yet to offer him a new contract. His current deal expires at the end of the 2024-25 season, leaving him potentially departing the club. "Honestly, it's in my head," Salah told Sky Sports. "Right now, this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool [at Anfield], so I was just going to enjoy it."

Salah Talks Liverpool Contract Uncertainty

Salah reflected on the atmosphere at Anfield, saying it felt like home and he cherished every moment there. "It's very special. I don't take it for granted. I'm enjoying every minute here," he added. The Egyptian forward hopes Liverpool can win the league and see what happens regarding his future.

Liverpool's victory over Manchester City extends their lead at the top of the table to nine points while putting them 11 points ahead of fifth-placed City. Virgil van Dijk delivered an outstanding defensive performance with seven clearances and nearly scored early in the match if not for Stefan Ortega's save.

Van Dijk praised City's quality but highlighted Liverpool's solid defence and scoring opportunities. "I think City are a fantastic team," Van Dijk told Sky Sports. "They have the quality to punish any team. But I think we were solid defensively and had great chances."

Focus on Upcoming Matches

Having led Liverpool to a Premier League title in 2019-20, Van Dijk emphasised staying grounded despite their strong position this season. "We focus on the next game," he said. "There's no point at this stage of the season to get ahead of ourselves." He acknowledged injuries within the team but stressed dealing with them effectively.

Liverpool will face Newcastle United on Wednesday before playing Everton in their final league Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. Everton recently suffered a heavy defeat against Manchester United, losing 4-0.
