I-League: Mohammedan SC crowned Champions, Qualifies for ISL Next Season

Kolkata, Apr 6: Mohammedan SC have scripted history by winning the I-League on Saturday (April 6). In a historic night for Kolkata Football, the third 'Boro Club' of the City of Joy has now qualified for the Indian Super League.

Mohammedan, fondly known as the Black Panthers, have emerged I-League champions after winning their match against Shillong Lajong on Saturday.

With their latest victory, the club has now won the league with a match to spare and will be playing in the ISL next season.

It has been a dream journey for Mohammedan in the I-League this season. Under the tutelage of Andrey Chernyshov, the White and Black Brigade have emerged victorious in the 2nd tier of Indian football.

On Saturday, Mohammedan faced Shillong Lajong in Shillong, requiring two points in two matches to be crowned as champions.

They started in sublime fashion as Alexis Gomez scored in the 1st minute of the match. Douglas Tardim equalized for Shillong but a 63rd-minute goal from Evgeny Kozlov gave them all three points, thus making the Kolkata club I-League champions.

With their amazing achievement, Mohammedan SC become the 3rd Kolkata-based club to take part in the ISL as they will compete in the top tier of Indian football next season.

The fans erupted in joy in Kolkata and its surroundings after their club's amazing achievement. The club, which was established back in 1891, have witnessed a lot of ups and downs in their history. They won the Federation Cup twice in history, while have also won the Calcutta Football League 14 times. They made a hat-trick of winning the CFL in 2023.
