Mohammedan SC vs Chennaiyin FC, ISL 2024-25: Marina Machans Seek Revenge as They Travel to Kolkata
Mohammedan SC vs Chennaiyin FC: Chennaiyin FC are set to face Mohammedan SC at the Kishore Bharti Krirangan in a high-stakes Indian Super League (ISL) encounter. The Marina Machans, currently six points ahead of their opponents on the league table, aim to avenge a narrow defeat suffered earlier this season.
Owen Coyle's men arrive with determination but recognize the challenge posed by Mohammedan SC, who have been a spirited side this season. Mohammedan are fresh off an impressive 1-0 victory over Bengaluru FC, showcasing their resilience and quality.

"They're a positive side, and their win against Bengaluru was a fantastic result," remarked Coyle during the pre-match press conference. "We respect them immensely, but we're focused on ourselves. With players returning from injuries and suspensions, our group is stronger, and that gives us confidence for the rest of the campaign."
One of the returning players is Ankit Mukherjee, who made his comeback after more than two months. Reflecting on his recovery and the team's progress, Ankit expressed optimism. "It feels great to be back training with the team. I'm grateful to the medical staff for their support. Starting the game against Odisha was a big step for me. Now, we want to build on our recent performances and keep improving."
Chennaiyin were left frustrated after a 2-2 draw against Odisha FC in their last outing, despite dominating much of the game. Coyle highlighted the positives but lamented the missed opportunity to secure all three points.
"The result was disappointing, but the performance was outstanding," Coyle said. "We scored two fantastic goals, and the boys worked hard throughout. Unfortunately, a poor decision went against us, and at 2-1, we should have defended better. Still, I'm proud of the level we displayed, and that's the standard we aim to maintain."
As for team news, Coyle revealed that captain Ryan Edwards remains doubtful for the clash, but there's hope for Elsinho's return to the squad. This matchup marks only the second meeting between the two sides, with Mohammedan holding a 1-0 advantage. Both teams are eyeing crucial points.
Hence, fans can expect an intense contest as Chennaiyin FC look to settle the score in Kolkata. With this season being Mohammedan's maiden, the two teams are meeting only for the second time on January 14th. The only time these two faced each other was early in the season, back in September and the Marina Machans won that match by a narrow 1-0 margin.
