Defending champions Mohammedan Sporting are facing Kalighat MS in their third Group A match of the Calcutta Football League (CFL) on Friday (July 5) at the Mohammedan Ground.
Desperate for a win, the black-and-white brigade will be aiming to bounce back after being held to a 0-0 draw by Kidderpore SC in their opening group match last Monday.
In their last match five days prior to the draw, Mohammedan Sporting showcased their attacking prowess by demolishing Wari 6-0. However, their performance against Kidderpore left much to be desired as they struggled to break down a resolute defense. Mohammedan currently have four points from two games.
Despite the home advantage, Mohammedan Sporting failed to find the back of the net, much to the frustration of their fans and coach Hakim Ssengendo.
Kidderpore, who have consistently reached the Super Six (championship) round in recent seasons, executed a disciplined defensive strategy that stifled Mohammedan Sporting's usual creative flair. While coach Ssengendo has opted not to hit the panic button just yet, the pressure is on his team to deliver a more clinical performance against Kalighat MS.
Kalighat MS, known for their competitive spirit, will not be an easy opponent. They will be looking to capitalize on Mohammedan Sporting's recent stumble and secure a positive result. For Mohammedan Sporting, this match is an opportunity to reaffirm their status as title contenders and regain momentum in the group stage.
The anticipation is high as the defending champions prepare to step onto the pitch, with the expectations of their loyal supporters riding on their shoulders. A victory on Friday could set the tone for the remainder of their campaign and restore confidence within the squad. All eyes will be on the Mohammedan Ground as the two teams clash in what promises to be an exciting encounter in the CFL.
