By MyKhel Staff

Mohun Bagan Super Giant secured a 1-0 victory over Bengaluru FC in their Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 encounter at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on January 27, 2025.

The decisive goal was netted by Liston Colaco in the 74th minute. The match commenced with both teams displaying aggressive intent. Bengaluru FC, led by Sunil Chhetri, created early opportunities, notably in the 9th minute when Suresh Wangjam's shot narrowly missed the target. Chhetri himself had a chance in the 18th minute but couldn't capitalise.

Mohun Bagan's first significant offensive move came in the 22nd minute through Manvir Singh on the right flank, but the final pass to Greg Stewart lacked precision. Throughout the first half, Bengaluru FC maintained offensive pressure, while Mohun Bagan's midfield struggled to establish dominance, leading to several miscommunications among their players. Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was instrumental for Bengaluru, notably saving a long-range effort from Colaco in the 38th minute. The half concluded goalless, with Chhetri missing another opportunity during stoppage time.

In the second half, both teams intensified their search for a breakthrough. Mohun Bagan squandered a clear opportunity in the 67th minute when Jamie Maclaren set up Stewart, whose attempt failed to find the net. The deadlock was broken in the 74th minute when Stewart delivered a cross to Colaco at the edge of the box. Colaco's powerful volley from 20 yards out beat Gurpreet, giving Mohun Bagan the lead.

Following this victory, Mohun Bagan remains at the top of the ISL standings with 40 points from 18 matches. Bengaluru FC, having secured only one point in their last four games, faces challenges in their campaign.
