Mohun Bagan coach Antonio Habas says no special feelings for Kolkata derby

The upcoming Kolkata derby has seen more controversy before the match than any other in recent times. However, now with less than 24 hours left for the game, everyone is focused on the game at hand and getting away with three points on offer.

Mohun Bagan coach Antonio Habas said exactly that in the press conference ahead of the 'Boro Match'. He assured that they are not focusing on some special sentiments surrounding the game, but are extremely focused on getting the three points which can help them win the shield.

He also assured that they would not be looking for any revenge. Mohun Bagan have already faced East Bengal four times this season. The Torch Bearers got away with two wins and the Mariners with one. The first derby of the ISL 2023-24 ended in a 2-2 draw.

However, along with coach Habas, the Mariners captain Subhasish Bose also said that they are only focused on getting the three points up for grabs with a win. However, talking to the Indian Super League website, Subhasish acknowledged that the derby is an important match for the fans.

He said, “Now every point is important for us. We are in the league-shield race. So against East Bengal, we will go for three points to go top. Derby is a very important match for Kolkata fans. It is our responsibility to put a smile on the faces of the supporters.”

All Mohun Bagan players and coach Habas looked calm and lively during the training session on the day before the Kolkata derby. It's clear that even though everyone knows how important this match is, the boss is steering the boys well so that emotions don't get the best of them.

Mohun Bagan are currently sitting in 3rd place in the league table, only 3 points behind table-topper Mumbai City FC who have played two more games. Hence, a win can help the Mariners inch closer to the shield. On the other hand, another defeat will drive East Bengal further away from the top six spots.
