Mohun Bagan To Be Without Hugo Boumous Before Kolkata Derby? Where does his future lies?

Hugo Boumous has been in hot waters with Mohun Bagan management for some time now. There have been rumours since the start of this ISL 2023-24 season that the Mariners wanted to ship out the player.

At that time, the French forward’s long-term contract became a hindrance to that. However, as the season progresses, the chances of Boumous' departure increase. Though, it's not yet known which club he might join next.

Hugo Boumous joined Mohun Bagan at the start of the 2021-22 season. He was brought on a record transfer fee by the Mariners. It didn't pay off when his performance in both of his last 2 seasons was not up to par.

He scored only 5 goals in 19 games in his first season. In the 2022-23 season, he scored only 6 goals in a total of 26 games. Additionally, as per AajTak Bangla, his attitude also became an issue for the Mariners' management.

Hence, Mohun Bagan were ready to ship out the player at the start of this season. However, when he came, he signed a 5-year deal with the club. Even though they couldn't get rid of them then, it could be done soon.

He has featured in a total of 23 games this season and has not been able to impress so far. Additionally, Mohun Bagan star Sahal Abdul Samad was injured for a long time which saw Boumous play regularly.

However, as it's evident from the Indian national team’s run at the AFC Asian Cup, Sahal is now fit to play. Mohun Bagan also has a new coach in Antonio Habas who prefers playing a more defensive style. That could see Habas play Sahal and bench Boumous in most games.

Hence, it would be in favour of Boumous to leave as well. However, it's not yet known where he will join next. There have been some rumours that he could move to Mumbai City FC. However, that move seems extremely unlikely.
