Mohun Bagan started the ISL 2023-24 as the favourites to win again. However, somewhere along the way, they started losing their hold. Now, they start the 2nd half of the season in 5th place in the league table.
A plethora of injuries halted their way to the top even though they probably have the best squad amongst all teams. They now have their work cut out for them if they want to clinch the title.

Mohun Bagan started the ISL 2023-24 season with a 7-match unbeaten streak. However, then they lost three matches consecutively in the span of only eight days in December. This saw them end the 1st half of the season in 5th place.
One of the main reasons for that was due to the large number of injuries. They still had a good squad that Juan Ferrando could have used to defeat most teams in the league. However, he never could find the right combination.
Key players
Mohun Bagan are the second-highest scorers in the Indian Super League with 19 goals. The most contributions to that has come from Jason Cummings with four goals and one assist. Sahal Abdul Samad also started the season exceptionally well.
He provided four assists before he got injured and missed a few matches. However, he is now fit and should come back to the squad. However, Mohun Bagan's progress this season could not have been made without the attacking midfielder Dimitri Petratos.
What's next
Mohun Bagan’s defense this season has been unimpressive. They've only been able to keep two clean sheets and have conceded the most number of goals among the top five. At this stage, their focus needs to be on staying fit to improve. They will play East Bengal in two all-important Kolkata derby games on February 3 and March 10.
Their key matches against the rest of the top five matches are -
vs Goa on February 14
vs Odisha on February 24
vs Kerala Blasters on March 13
vs Mumbai City FC on April 14
