Mohun Bagan recently bolstered their defense as they signed another A-League star, Nuno Reis. However, as he was signed after the season had started, fans' first concern was when he would come to the city to begin training and playing.
As per an InsideSport report, Reis has received his visa clearance and could be in Kolkata as soon as Sunday. The Mariners' next match is against NorthEast United on Monday at home. Hence, there is no chance that Reis will make his debut in that game.

Following that match, Mohun Bagan will travel to Bengaluru for their first away game of the season. Then they will be flying to Iran to face Tractor SC for their second AFC Champions League Two (ACL) group stage game. The Mariners are in desperate need of a boost in defense.
Hence, they will want to play Reis in their ACL Two match. Mohun Bagan have been suffering at the back for some time now. Since the play-offs of the Durand Cup, they have drawn most of their games and had to really on penalty shootouts to progress in tournaments.
They squandered 2-goal leads in this season's Durand Cup final against NorthEast United which they ultimately lost in the penalty shootouts costing the final. They squandered another 2-0 lead again in their opening ISL 2024-25 match against Mumbai City FC.
That match ended in a draw. Their first ACL Two match ended in a lackluster draw where they created some good chances but failed to produce something from them. The strongest points in their backline at this point are captain Subhasish Bose, Tom Aldred, and youngster Dippendu Biswas.
Since arriving, Alberto Rodriguez became another of the pillars of their defense but he is currently recovering for an injury. Aldred has already scored once in the seven matches he has appeared in so far for the Mariners. Hence, Reis will be a welcoming addition to the team.
Especially since Indian Super League have introduced the rule that a club can deregister and register any foreign player any time throughout the season. This means that the Mariners can use all of their players with the amount of injuries that's sure to come with the heavy schedule.
