This upcoming Kolkata derby has been full of controversies even before the two teams have been able to get into the ground for the match. In the latest bout of off-the-field fight, East Bengal waved off all the price differences between their and away fans' ticket prices.
However, in that statement from the club, they alleged that “Mohun Bagan Club implemented a similar strategy on February 3rd, 2024, offering discounts to their devoted fans.” The Mariners retorted to the allegations saying that East Bengal's statement is 'totally false’.

They explained in their statement that they had sold bulk tickets of that match at a discounted price only to their members. They further said, “The price of tickets for our fans and away fans were same.” The system of a club's card-holding members getting special benefits is practiced worldwide.
This includes both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal clubs who have a huge number of members. In most parts of the world, fans pay a specific price to get the memberships of their beloved clubs. In turn, they receive free club merchandise and at times, season tickets.
Hence, it's not a surprise if a club provides discounted tickets to their members. Additionally, it is true that in the last Kolkata derby that was held in early February where Mohun Bagan were the hosts, they did not keep different prices between their fans and away fans tickets.
In that Mohun Bagan statement, the club also said that even though East Bengal released a statement saying that they would waive off any discrepancies in the ticket prices, everything still remained the same on BookMyShow as of 8:30 PM on March 8, 2024.
Only a day is left for the famous Kolkata derby that can set both club's future for this Indian Super League season. A win for Mohun Bagan will see them seal their place in the ISL 2023-24 play-offs.
