Kolkata, Feb 17: Sony Norde's career is under serious threat. The prolific footballer of Mohun Bagan, whose brilliant game played a major role in Kolkata club winning I-League title 2 years ago, has been suffering from severe knee injury. The Haiti international had played in Mohun Bagan's last I-League match against Mumbai FC which the Kolkata outfit drew goalless.

But Norde was fielded only after renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr Anant Joshi asked him to play the match.

The reason as mentioned by Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen was, "Dr Joshi wanted to observe the gravity of Sony's knee injury. I was asked by the doctor to retain Sony for full 90 minutes. But after having watched him in the match Dr Joshi was not satisfied about the recovery."

Sen also could not inform whether Norde will be able to participate in Mohun Bagan's next I-League match against DSK Shivajians in Kolkata on Saturday (February 18).

But he added, "Sony might be fielded in the I-League match. But if he again feels pain he will have to rush to Mumbai again for check-up."

Whatever statement the coach has made, the reality is that Norde has been dropped from Mohun Bagan's next AFC Cup tie on 21 February against Maldives club Valencia.

It has been learnt that following pressure from the club's top officials as well from the club's members Norde is likely to be played in the team's next I-League match for some time and after the match, he will be rushing to Mumbai for a thorough check-up under Dr Joshi.

It has also been learnt that Norde has been suffering from this knee injury for a long time and now it has worsened. It is also learnt from the club that if Norde has to undergo operation again, the footballer even might not be available for Mohun Bagan in the last phase of the I-League.
