Mohun Bagan Super Giant capped off their dominant league campaign with a 2-0 win over FC Goa at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25. The Mariners extended their unbeaten home record and finished the league phase with a historic 56 points-the highest in a single ISL season.
The match saw both teams create several goal-scoring opportunities, but it was an own goal by Boris Singh and a late strike from Greg Stewart that sealed Mohun Bagan's 17th win of the campaign.

The hosts started with intent, pressing high and making inroads into the opposition's box. Greg Stewart and Dimitrios Petratos came close to breaking the deadlock within the opening ten minutes. However, FC Goa nearly punished them on the counter when Rowllin Borges sent a precise long ball to Borja Herrera, who in turn set up Iker Guarrotxena. The Spaniard, however, failed to find the target.
As the game progressed, FC Goa grew in confidence. Udanta Singh made a dangerous run down the left, but Tom Aldred was quick to neutralize the threat. Guarrotxena's sharp movement kept Mohun Bagan's defense on edge, and he had a couple of close attempts on goal. In the 31st minute, Borja Herrera tested goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem from distance, forcing him into a solid save. Minutes later, Herrera's free-kick was also denied by the Mohun Bagan custodian.
The second half saw Mohun Bagan regain control, with Udanta Singh making another explosive run before being brought down by Asish Rai, who was booked for the foul. Head coach Jose Molina soon replaced Rai with Dippendu Biswas in the 57th minute.
The breakthrough came in the 62nd minute when Boris Singh's attempted header back to his goalkeeper, Hrithik Tiwari, led to a mix-up, resulting in the ball bouncing into the net for an unfortunate own goal. The Mariners capitalized on this momentum, with Liston Colaco and Stewart both coming close to doubling the lead.
In the closing stages, Mohun Bagan shifted to a more controlled approach, preserving their lead. FC Goa introduced Dejan Drazic, while Mohun Bagan brought on Jason Cummings to strengthen their attack. The Mariners put the game beyond doubt when Cummings set up Stewart, who coolly slotted the ball past Hrithik Tiwari to make it 2-0.
With this emphatic win, Mohun Bagan Super Giant lifted the ISL League Shield in front of a roaring crowd of 61,591 fans, cementing their dominance in the league phase and setting their sights on the playoffs.
