Mohun Bagan Super Giant etched their name into Indian football history with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over Bengaluru FC in the final of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL), held at the iconic Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
With this comeback win, the Mariners not only lifted the ISL Cup but also completed a sensational League Double, having already secured the ISL Shield earlier in the season. Remarkably, they remained unbeaten at home throughout the campaign, becoming only the second side after Mumbai City FC in 2020-21 to win both titles in the same season.

Backed by a raucous Kolkata crowd, MBSG hit the ground running, with Jamie Maclaren nearly putting them ahead early on. In the 9th minute, his precise strike from the right side of the box forced a sharp save from Bengaluru FC custodian Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, who got down low to deny the opener.
Anirudh Thapa then surged forward with purpose from midfield, managing to get into the box and release a powerful attempt from the left, but the Bengaluru defence stood firm and blocked the effort.
The visitors responded with a spell of pressure around the 20-minute mark. Alberto Noguera carved open the MBSG defence with a low cross aimed at Sunil Chhetri, but the striker couldn't latch on. Moments later, Edgar Mendez's header was palmed away by Vishal Kaith to keep the scoreboard untroubled.
The deadlock was broken just after half-time in unfortunate fashion for the Mariners. In the 49th minute, a driven cross from Williams down the right flank created chaos in the box. Defender Alberto Rodriguez, in an attempt to clear under pressure, turned the ball into his own net, handing Bengaluru the advantage.
Determined to respond, Subhasish Bose pushed forward and delivered a pinpoint pass to Jason Cummings, who unleashed a stinging left-footed strike. Sandhu once again came to his team's rescue with a full-stretch save.
Mohun Bagan eventually found the leveller in the 72nd minute, thanks to a handball by Chinglensana Singh inside the box. Jason Cummings stepped up and coolly slotted the penalty into the bottom corner to bring the match back on level terms.
In added time, Kaith's long ball nearly found the net through Ashique Kuruniyan, whose angled shot narrowly missed. A Greg Stewart cross later met Tom Aldred, but the defender's header failed to test the goalkeeper, sending the match into extra time.
The decisive moment came just six minutes into the first half of extra time. With Bengaluru's backline stretched, Jamie Maclaren finally made his mark. Pouncing on a loose ball inside the area, the Australian striker rifled home a composed finish to give MBSG a 2-1 lead and ultimately, the championship.
Maclaren was clinical when it mattered most-completing 10 of his 11 passes and netting the winner that delivered ISL glory to Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
