Mohun Bagan Super Giant Sign India Defender Rahul Bheke ahead of New Season

Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) officially announced the signing of Indian national team defender Rahul Bheke on Thursday (June 18).

Joining the green-and-maroons on a one-year contract, the seasoned campaigner adds a tremendous wealth of experience to an already star-studded Kolkata squad.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant has been an absolute dominant force in recent Indian Super League campaigns, building a legacy on the back of historic runs. As the management continues to construct a squad capable of conquering every domestic and continental competition, bolstering the backline became a top priority.

Capable of operating seamlessly as a center-back or right-back, the veteran defender brings a proven track record from his successful stints with clubs like Mumbai City FC, Bengaluru FC, and Kerala Blasters.

For Bheke, Kolkata is deeply familiar territory. Having previously played in the city for arch-rivals East Bengal, he intimately understands the cultural heritage, the roaring passion of the supporters, and the sheer intensity of the Kolkata Derby.

Interestingly, Bheke once scored a match-winning goal against Mohun Bagan in the Derby, a narrative he is now eager to rewrite in favor of the green-and-maroon faithful.

"Kolkata is a familiar city for me in terms of football. I have previously played for East Bengal, and people will remember that I scored and secured a win in the Derby against Mohun Bagan.
