That has allowed them to cut attacks from the middle but isolated from the two forwards up front, who often don't get the ball to counter attack enough. However, they have used their physicality in the set pieces to remain a threat in the game

Defensive midfielder Hector Yuste is dropping deep to join the two centre-backs, allowing Ashish Rai and Subhasish Bose to overlap comfortably. However, the fullbacks haven't made many good crosses into the box with the likes of Jason Cummings and Sadikou waiting.

Mohun Bagan will be aiming to confirm their AFC Cup 2023-24 participation as they take on Dhaka Abahani in the second and final preliminary stages at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan, aka Salt Lake Stadium on Tuesday (August 22).
Mohun Bagan Super Giants faced Dhaka Abahani at the same stage last year and at the same venue as the Kolkata Giants triumph 3-1. The side eventually made the inter-zone semifinals after topping the group stages.
Mohun Bagan are considered overwhelming favourites for this game too as they defeated Nepal's Machhindra FC 3-1 in the opening preliminary stage match with centre-back Anwar Ali scoring a brace. Their new foreign striker Jason Cummings found the back of the net as well.
Mohun Bagan earlier qualified for the AFC Cup 2023-24 play-offs after winning the Indian Super League last season. They then defeated ISL shield winners Hyderabad in the playoffs following a long season that ended with AIFF Super Cup's swansong.
The reigning Indian Super League champions started their new season under coach Juan Ferrando and have also reached the knockout stages of the ongoing Durand Cup 2023 despite finishing runners-up to arch-rivals East Bengal in Group A.
Mohun Bagan's under-preparation was exposed during the Durand Cup as Mohun Bagan lost a derby match to East Bengal for the first time in four years. The side looked more convincing with their youth setup when junior coach Baastab Roy was asked to take charge for the opening match of the tournament.
Mohun Bagan won the game 5-0 with the likes of Suhail Ahmad Bhat, Kiyan Nassiri Giri, along with man-of-the-match Liston Colaco making their presence felt.
