Mohun Bagan vs Downtown Heroes Highlights, Durand Cup 2024: Defending champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant began their title defence with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Downtown Heroes FC in the opening game of the 133rd IndianOil Durand Cup, held at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharti Krirangan on Saturday (July 27).
Suhail Bhat scored the decisive goal for The Mariners in the game. Mohun Bagan Super Giant's Assistant Coach Bastab Roy fielded a starting eleven featuring a mix of first-team players and reserves, including new signing Tom Aldred, and regulars Asish Rai, Glan Martins, and Abhishek Suryavanshi.
Downtown Heroes FC's Head Coach Hilal Rasool Parray named his strongest lineup, with French defender Redah Atassi as captain and Liberian attacker Darius Snorton Perwood leading the forward line.

Mohun Bagan are entering the competition as the defending champions. They are also participating in this event, having won the Indian Super League Shield the previous season. They won that trophy under their previous coach Antonio Lopez Habas. Following the end of the season, they recruited Jose Francisco Molina as their new coach, and they hope to build on their last season's success.
This year's summer transfer window has seen the Mariners recruit famous foreign players such as Jamie Maclaren, Greg Stewart, Alberto Rodriguez, and Tom Aldred.
