The group stage game was a virtual quarterfinal, which saw East Bengal hit a depleted Mohun Bagan hard after falling behind early in the Kolkata Derby. East Bengal will have some strength added to their squad too as Naorem Mahesh Singh and Lalchunnunga return after the AFC Asian Cup as well but dearly miss the services of Souvik Chakraborty, who picked up a suspension for a red card in the Super Cup final.
The gulf in quality shows in the points table too as defending champions Mohun Bagan are fifth on the table with 19 points in 10 games while East Bengal have been struggling with 11 points in 10 games.
