Paul Pogba Monaco Future Under Scrutiny As Filipe Luis Assesses Playing Time
Paul Pogba’s future at Monaco is uncertain, with Thiago Scuro admitting that a departure before the new Ligue 1 season is possible. The Monaco CEO stressed that any final call depends on new head coach Filipe Luis, who will judge whether Pogba can still contribute on the pitch.
Scuro has already stated that the original plan for Pogba did not deliver what Monaco expected. The club must also cut costs after their wage bill was capped, so Pogba’s salary makes any decision more complex as Monaco try to balance squad needs and financial limits.

Pogba joined Monaco in June 2025 on a two-year contract, shortly after completing a doping suspension. The French midfielder arrived with hopes of rebuilding form and fitness in Ligue 1. Monaco viewed the deal as a chance to add experience while offering Pogba a stable competitive environment.
The 2025-26 season brought few minutes for Pogba, mainly due to continuing fitness problems. Pogba played only six Ligue 1 matches, totalling 115 minutes, and did not appear in the Champions League. Monaco left Pogba out of their Champions League squad for the knockout rounds, limiting opportunities for a wider comeback.
{TABLE_1}Monaco appointed Filipe Luis as head coach for the 2026-27 campaign, handing the Brazilian a deal until June 2028. Luis has described Pogba as a special playerand intends to hold detailed talks in the coming days, before shaping plans for Pogba’s role or potential exit.
Earlier in 2026, Scuro accepted that Pogba’s arrival had not matched what Monaco hoped for on the field. When asked whether the 33-year-old might move on, Scuro told Get French Football News: "Yes, of course. Maybe he'll leave, maybe he'll stay. It's a very complicated issue. We have a lot of respect for him as a person first and foremost. When he arrived here, he was very positive; he helped the young players. But the truth is also that the project [with him] didn't work well last season. When we started it, our expectations were very different."
Scuro explained that Monaco will now track Pogba week by week under the new head coach. "I think now we need to be fair with him: look at his preparation each week, see how he's progressed physically and technically," Scuro said. "And then it will be the coach's decision whether Filipe Luis will give him playing time or not. We have the summer to see what Paul's level will be." That assessment period will shape whether Pogba remains part of Monaco’s squad or moves on before the new season.
