Paris Saint-Germain turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 victory against Monaco, taking control of their Champions League play-off first leg. Substitute Desire Doue struck twice and assisted indirectly in another goal, while Monaco finished with 10 players after Aleksandr Golovin received a red card following a VAR review.
Doue entered after just 27 minutes because Ousmane Dembele suffered an injury, having already been a pre-match doubt. The change transformed the match. Monaco’s early dominance faded as PSG grew stronger, with Desire Doue and Achraf Hakimi driving the comeback that leaves Monaco needing a response in the second leg.

The hosts had actually started in serious trouble. Folarin Balogun put Monaco ahead inside 55 seconds, meeting Golovin’s precise cross from the left with a close-range header into an almost empty net. Balogun then doubled the lead after 18 minutes, finishing calmly past Matvey Safonov from Maghnes Akliouche’s throughball.
PSG’s first clear chance to respond came when Wout Faes brought down Khvicha Kvaratskhelia inside the penalty area. The foul offered a route back, but Philipp Kohn guessed correctly and saved Vitinha’s spot-kick. Soon after, Dembele was forced off injured, which initially added to PSG’s problems but quickly became a turning point.
Doue made an instant impact. Within one minute and 59 seconds of coming on, the substitute drilled a low shot in off the far post to halve the deficit. Four minutes before half-time, Kohn could only parry another effort from Doue, and Hakimi reacted sharply to drive the rebound across goal for 2-2.
Monaco’s task then became harder three minutes into the second half. A VAR review showed Golovin scraping studs down Vitinha’s shin, and the referee produced a red card. By that stage, PSG already controlled territory and possession, and the dismissal further tilted the balance towards Luis Enrique’s side.
PSG finally completed the turnaround in the 67th minute. Warren Zaire-Emery slipped a neat pass into space, and Doue struck a precise shot into the bottom-right corner. The home side continued to press against the 10 players but could not add a fourth goal, leaving the tie finely balanced despite their dominance.
Golovin’s dismissal meant a second straight red card across all competitions, following another against Nantes in Ligue 1 on Friday. However, PSG were already on top when that incident occurred. The underlying data suggested the result reflected the play, with PSG leading the expected goals count by a clear margin.

Doue’s first strike was the fastest goal by a substitute in this season’s Champions League, arriving one minute and 59 seconds after introduction. Desire Doue also became only the second PSG substitute to score more than once in a Champions League match, following Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick against Club Brugge in October 2019.
This 3-2 success is just PSG’s second Champions League win after trailing by at least two goals, matching a 3-2 victory over Manchester City last January. Monaco still have hope, but PSG carry both a narrow advantage and strong attacking form into the return leg of this play-off tie.
