New Delhi, Aug 5: One of the biggest entertainers during the drab months of no club football in Europe has been the ever-going transfer saga of Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez and we could see another twist in the tale, if reports in France are to be believed.

Yesterday, Arsene Wenger insisted that the Gunners will hold onto their prized asset and are even prepared to lose him for nothing next summer if he does not sign a contract extension.

However big a statement it might sound, from the financial perspective, it would be a big loss to the club and French champions Monaco are looking to exploit exactly that as per reports from French media.

The Ligue 1 holders are ready to test Arsenal's resolve by making a £45m bid for wantaway forward Alexis Sanchez.

The French side are trying to use Wenger's interest in their midfielder Thomas Lemar to try to tempt the Gunners chief into relenting on his Sanchez stance.

Monaco have raked in nearly £150m in transfer fees already this summer with departures including Manchester City duo Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy and Chelsea recruit Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The French side are also expected to lose teenage ace Kylian Mbappe for around £160m with Real Madrid determined to land the youngster, but are keen to make a marquee signing of their own. With such a huge amount of cash in hand, they can surely invest in the positions they need recruits.

Monaco feel they could provide the Chilean with the financial package he wants and challenge that he would accept for at least this season ahead of the World Cup in Russia next summer.

Boss Leonardo Jardim feels Manchester City target Sanchez can add steel and experience to his team and can offer a tax-free salary of around £300k per week as well as the lure of the Monte Carlo lifestyle.
