Morocco FIFA World Cup 2026 Squad: Atlas Lions Name 26-Man Squad Led By Achraf Hakimi

Morocco has unveiled an ambitious 26-man squad for the upcoming global tournament, mixing legendary Qatar 2022 heroes with rising young stars under new management. Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has chosen his 26-man Morocco squad ahead of the tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the USA.

Taking over from Walid Regragui in March, Ouahbi faces immense pressure to replicate the magic of Qatar, where Morocco shattered boundaries, becoming the first African side to reach the last four of a World Cup, following in the iconic footsteps of Cameroon, Senegal, and Ghana. The new manager has kept his core intact while adding a breath of fresh air on the side. The Moroccan coach has kept experienced players like Yassine Bounou, midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, and captain Achraf Hakimi to drive the squad forward.

To fine-tune his strategy, Ouahbi relied heavily on the team's intensive training camps. "We relied heavily on the training camp, and I'd already said at the first camp [in March] that some players who weren't there also had the chance to make it to the World Cup," said Ouahbi in a statement reported by FIFA.

FIFA World Cup 2026: Exciting New Additions For Atlas Lions

The most talked-about inclusion is teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi, who chose the Atlas Lions over France. "We're very proud and delighted to have him with us", said Ouahbi of the midfielder, as shared by FIFA. "The most important thing is that he is very proud to represent Morocco." Alongside him, Fulham defender Issa Diop adds serious Premier League muscle to the backline after switching his allegiance.

However, the squad selection also brought some heartbreak. Fan-favorite Sofiane Boufal was left out of the final list. Explaining his tough decision to FIFA, Ouahbi noted, "[Boufal] would have deserved it if I'd been able to pick 30 or 40 players." He added that the competition for the central attacking role was simply too fierce: "Right from the start, I was honest with him and told him that the number 10 spot was already taken."

Morocco will kick off their Group C campaign against Brazil on June 13, followed by crucial matches against Scotland and Haiti. With creative powerhouse Brahim Díaz leading the attack, this fearless squad is ready to prove they belong among football's global elite.
