Manchester United Mount Confident They Can Challenge For Premier League Title Next Season
Mason Mount believes Manchester United are ready to compete for the Premier League title next season, pointing to Michael Carrick’s impact and improved results. With Champions League qualification close and strong performances against major rivals, Mount sees a group developing the mentality needed to end United’s top-flight title drought stretching back to the 2012-13 season under Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Opta supercomputer now gives Manchester United a 99.8% probability of qualifying for the Champions League, with four league matches left in the 2025-26 campaign. Their remaining schedule starts with a high-pressure meeting against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday, where both teams are pushing to secure a place in the Premier League’s top five.

Mount has made 22 appearances in all competitions during the 2025-26 season, scoring three goals and adding one assist. The 27-year-old attacking midfielder joined Manchester United from Chelsea in 2023 in a transfer worth a reported £55 million. Mount’s time at Old Trafford has included one major trophy so far, lifting the FA Cup under Erik ten Hag two years ago.
Injuries have limited Mount’s overall impact since arriving at Manchester United, restricting Mount to 69 competitive games, with only 30 of those as a starter. Despite those setbacks, Mount’s past success offers important experience in the dressing room. During Mount’s Chelsea career, Mount collected three trophies, including the Champions League title under head coach Thomas Tuchel.
Mount set out personal and collective targets while reflecting on Manchester United’s direction. "I have a goal of winning the Premier League, Mount said. Obviously, I've won the Champions League already, but can we [win the league?] Yes, I think we can as a group. We have to have that kind of mentality. It may seem a little bit far away, but you have to have that mentality to really push yourself as a group. We've shown what we can do against the big teams alreadyMan City,Liverpool, Chelsea,Arsenal, you know, so we've done it."
That belief is backed up by United’s record against leading domestic opponents this season, which Mount highlighted. Big wins against Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal have reinforced the squad’s confidence. Mount views these results as evidence that the players can compete with the strongest teams when focused, organised and physically ready across the full campaign.
Mount also stressed the importance of translating league form into Europe’s main club competition. "We've already shown that this season, so we definitely can do it. It's about now doing it on a bigger stage in the Champions League and doing it more consistently in the Premier League. I'll hopefully be a massive part in that moving forward next season. Yeah, it's a goal: I want to win the Premier League."
Manchester United’s improved performances have followed Michael Carrick’s appointment during the 2025-26 season, after Ruben Amorim’s departure. Since Carrick’s first Premier League game in charge this term, United have collected more points than any other side, taking 29. That run has moved the club close to securing Champions League football after a difficult start.

Across Carrick’s first 13 league matches this season, Manchester United have recorded nine victories, two draws and two defeats. That return already exceeds the eight wins managed by Ruben Amorim over 20 league fixtures in 2025-26, when Amorim’s side drew seven and lost five. The contrast underlines how Carrick’s approach has produced quicker, more consistent results in domestic competition.
United’s next challenge comes against long-standing rivals Liverpool, who travel to Old Trafford with Arne Slot seeking to confirm a top-five position. Manchester United have won only three of their last 19 Premier League meetings with Liverpool, drawing nine and losing seven. However, United are targeting a league double over Liverpool for the first time since the 2015-16 season, after a 2-1 away victory in October.
With Champions League qualification almost secured and domestic form improving under Carrick, Manchester United approach the end of the 2025-26 season with renewed confidence. Mount’s ambition to add a Premier League title to previous honours aligns with the club’s current trajectory, though consistent performances against clubs like Liverpool will remain essential to turning that ambition into success next year.
