Mourinho Questions His Move To Turkey And Criticises VAR After Fenerbahce's Dramatic Win

Jose Mourinho expressed doubts about his move to Turkey while criticising VAR Atilla Karaoglan after Fenerbahce's thrilling win against Trabzonspor. He highlighted controversial penalty decisions that affected the match outcome.

Jose Mourinho expressed his frustration after Fenerbahce's thrilling 3-2 victory over Trabzonspor, highlighting VAR Atilla Karaoglan as the standout figure of the match. Sofyan Amrabat secured the win with a goal in the 102nd minute, keeping Fenerbahce within five points of Galatasaray, the Turkish Super Lig leaders. Despite the win, Mourinho was upset about two penalties awarded to Trabzonspor following VAR reviews.

Mourinho criticised the decision-making process, arguing that his team deserved a penalty before Amrabat's decisive goal. He remarked, "I blame the Fenerbahce people that brought me here. They told me only half of the truth. They didn't tell me the whole truth because if they told me the whole truth, I wouldn't come. But with half of the truth and my boys, we fight opponents and the system."

Mourinho Critiques VAR After Fenerbahce Victory

The coach also directed his frustration towards Karaoglan, implying that Fenerbahce would prefer not to have him officiate their matches in future. Mourinho stated, "The man of the match was Atilla Karaoglan. We didn't see him, but he was the referee. The referee was just a little boy that was there on the pitch, but the referee was Atilla Karaoglan."

Mourinho voiced what he believed were shared sentiments among Fenerbahce supporters regarding Karaoglan's involvement in games. "I think I am speaking on behalf of every Fenerbahce fan we don't want him again," he said. "We don't want him as a VAR. We don't want him on the pitch but, on the VAR, even less."

He further criticised Karaoglan for being quick to award two penalties against Fenerbahce while ignoring what Mourinho saw as a clear penalty for his team. He sarcastically noted that Karaoglan seemed more interested in having Turkish tea during crucial moments for Fenerbahce.

The match highlighted ongoing tensions surrounding VAR decisions in football and how they impact teams and fans alike. Mourinho's comments reflect broader concerns about consistency and fairness in officiating.
