Moyes Expresses Confidence That Thierno Barry Will Soon Score Goals For Everton

David Moyes praises Thierno Barry's contributions despite his goal drought. As Everton faces Bournemouth, Moyes hopes Barry will soon find the net.

David Moyes has commended Thierno Barry for his unselfish performances as Everton prepare to face Bournemouth. However, the manager acknowledges that Barry's goal drought needs to end soon. The striker, who joined from Villarreal for £27 million during pre-season, has played in all 13 Premier League matches this season, starting six times. Despite his efforts, Barry has yet to score or even hit the target with 11 shots, accumulating an expected goals (xG) value of 1.63.

Barry's contributions off the ball have been notable, particularly in Everton's recent 1-0 win against Manchester United. This victory was achieved despite Idrissa Gueye being sent off early in the match for striking teammate Michael Keane. Moyes remains hopeful that Barry will find the back of the net soon, especially after a disallowed goal in their 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Moyes Confident Barry Will Find Scoring Form

Moyes explained their strategy: "What we've chosen to do is give him the opportunity to play and show what he can do." He emphasised that fan support has boosted Barry's confidence. "To get cheered by supporters, you have to do the right things and show willing," Moyes added. He believes hard work leads to acceptance and success at higher levels requires seizing opportunities.

The manager stressed the importance of scoring for a number nine but expressed satisfaction with Barry's adaptation to both Everton and the Premier League. Meanwhile, Bournemouth also faced defeat recently, losing 3-2 at Sunderland after leading 2-0. Their head coach Andoni Iraola anticipates a tough challenge against Everton.

Iraola praised Everton's resilience: "They are a very good team," he said. He noted their ability to win against Manchester United while playing with ten men from early on. Iraola recalled Everton's strong defensive record last season and expects another demanding Premier League encounter.

Players to Watch

Bournemouth's Marcus Tavernier has scored in his last two home league games at Vitality Stadium, having only netted twice in his previous 36 home appearances. For Everton, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has been involved in three goals across his last five away matches (two goals, one assist), including a winner at Old Trafford.

Match Prediction and Statistics

Bournemouth have won six of their last eight Premier League meetings with Everton (L2), including the last three encounters. The Toffees have never secured an away league victory against Bournemouth (D2 L6), losing their last four visits to Vitality Stadium. This is their longest winless streak against any side on the road in league history.

Despite Everton's improved away form under Moyes since January—winning seven out of 15 away games—the Opta supercomputer favours Bournemouth. They remain unbeaten in their last seven home league matches (W5 D2), marking their longest top-flight run without a loss since February-August 2022.
