Mumbai City FC kick off a landmark 2023-24 season as they embark on a second consecutive appearance in the prestigious AFC Champions League. The Islanders kick off their continental campaign against Iran's Nassaji Mazandaran at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, Pune.

Mumbai City FC and Nassaji Mazandaran have been drawn in Group D along with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal that includes Brazil star Neymar. The group also includes Uzbekistan side Navbahor.

Mumbai City FC played in the ACL in the 2022 season and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the knockout rounds after finishing second in the group stage. FC Nassaji Mazandaran on the other hand are playing in the ACL for the first time after they won the Hafzi Cup, the annual cup competition in Iran.

This will be the first time the two sides will clash in any competition, and a win for either side will amplify their chances of qualifying to the next round of the AFC Champions League.

Nassaji Mazandaran are well into their Persian Gulf Pro League season, having played four matches so far, winning only once, drawing twice and losing once. Mumbai City FC, on the other, start their Indian Super League campaign only next week, but come into the match back of decent Durand Cup.
