Myanmar likely to qualify for semis in AFC Challenger

By Staff

Hyderabad, Aug 2 (UNI) Myanmar defeated Sri Lanka 3-1 in its final Group B match of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup here today to keep its chances of entering the semi-finals alive.

After a goalless first half, Myanmar opened its account through Soe Myat Min in the 48th minute. Sri Lanka, however, restored parity in the 50th minute.

Stung by the equaliser, Myanmar, surged ahead with an opportunistic goal by Yan Paing in 65th minute and increased the tally through their striker Si Thu, with two minutes left for the final whistle.

Sri Lanka's poor marksmanship enabled Myanmar to outwit their defence with aplomb.
