Manchester United Want Myles Lewis-Skelly, but Arsenal Have Set One Big £50M Condition

Manchester United remain interested in signing Arsenal midfielder-turned-left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly, but the Gunners are only prepared to consider a deal if their £50 million-plus valuation is met.

United are looking to strengthen at left-back after their defensive shortcomings were exposed in Saturday's defeat by Hull City. Lewis-Skelly has emerged as one of the options being considered, although Arsenal's asking price is currently viewed as too high by the Manchester club.

The 19-year-old has made a strong start to the new season, impressing in Arsenal's wins over Manchester City and Coventry City. His recent performances have also seen him take on greater responsibility amid competition for places in Mikel Arteta's squad.

Arsenal, however, remain confident of keeping the Hale End academy graduate. Arteta said last week that he was "100%" confident Lewis-Skelly would remain at the club, while the player himself is understood to be happy at Arsenal after signing a new long-term contract 12 months ago.

Manchester United still want a new left-back

United's need for reinforcements at left-back could keep the Lewis-Skelly situation alive until the transfer window closes.

Luke Shaw started in the position against Hull and featured in all 38 Premier League games last season, but concerns remain over his ability to maintain that workload given United's additional European commitments.

United have also explored other options. Newcastle United's Lewis Hall is understood to be a long-term target, although the Magpies have made it clear that the former Chelsea defender is not for sale.

Barcelona's Alejandro Balde has emerged as another possibility, with reports in Spain suggesting the Catalan club could consider a deal worth around £38 million.

Lewis-Skelly, meanwhile, remains Arsenal's preferred option unless a club is willing to meet their £50m-plus valuation. With the England international settled at the Emirates and under contract, United face a difficult task if they want to prise him away from north London before the transfer deadline.
