Napoli Faces Challenge Of Adapting After Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's Departure To PSG

Antonio Conte stresses the importance of Napoli adapting swiftly following Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. With a crucial match against Atalanta ahead, maintaining team unity will be vital for success.

Antonio Conte emphasised the need for Napoli to swiftly adjust to life without Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, as they face a challenging match against Atalanta. Kvaratskhelia announced his departure from Napoli on social media, with his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain confirmed shortly after. The Georgian forward played a crucial role in Napoli's 2022-23 Scudetto victory, contributing 12 goals and 10 assists during his tenure.

Despite missing three of Napoli's last five league matches due to injury, Kvaratskhelia managed eight goal involvements this season, helping the team maintain their position at the top of Serie A. Conte acknowledged the impact of such departures on team dynamics, stating, "I said that January was special, it's called the transfer market, so one-two, whoever leaves, whoever comes in..."

Napoli Must Adjust After Kvaratskhelia Leaves

Conte highlighted the importance of preserving team unity amid these changes. He remarked on the necessity of rebuilding chemistry with new players to compensate for Kvaratskhelia's absence. "We will have to be good at maintaining the unity created up until January 1 [and] recreate that alchemy with the new players," he explained.

The upcoming fixture list presents significant challenges for Napoli. After facing third-placed Atalanta, who are just four points behind them, Napoli will host Juventus and travel to Roma. Conte is focused on overcoming Gian Piero Gasperini's Atalanta side first.

Atalanta have been formidable opponents recently, winning their last two Serie A encounters against Napoli with identical 3-0 scores. They last achieved three consecutive league victories over Napoli between April 1997 and February 1998. However, Napoli have won their last five Serie A matches, keeping clean sheets in the most recent three.

Conte acknowledged Atalanta's strength and recent successes. "Atalanta won 11 games in a row," he noted. "They were strong and have remained strong because they won the Europa League." He also mentioned their competitive performance against Real Madrid despite losing that match.

Focus on Self-Improvement

While recognising Atalanta's capabilities, Conte stressed the importance of focusing on Napoli's growth since their last encounter with Atalanta. "Having said that, we must focus on ourselves, not on them," he stated. "We have grown since the last match against them and we must continue in the process."

Conte remains committed to protecting what his team has built so far this season. He expressed confidence in his players' abilities and dedication: "I have to be focused on the team; we are doing something beautiful and I have to protect it; these guys deserve it."

The upcoming matches will test Napoli's resilience and adaptability as they navigate life without Kvaratskhelia while aiming to maintain their lead in Serie A.
