Napoli's Frank Anguissa Faces Uncertainty For AFCON After High-Grade Thigh Injury

Frank Anguissa has sustained a high-grade thigh injury that may prevent him from representing Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations. The Napoli midfielder is expected to miss eight to 12 weeks, impacting both national and club commitments.

Frank Anguissa, a Napoli midfielder, has been diagnosed with a significant injury to his left thigh. This setback could jeopardise his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations for Cameroon. The injury occurred during training with his national team, prompting his return to Italy for further evaluation. Initial assessments were optimistic, but Napoli later confirmed the severity of the injury.

The injury is a high-grade lesion to the biceps femoris in Anguissa's left thigh. Although he has started rehabilitation, Italian media reports suggest he might be sidelined for eight to 12 weeks. This timeline casts doubt on his availability for Cameroon's opening match against Gabon on December 24.

Anguissa's Injury Puts AFCON Participation at Risk

Cameroon is grouped with Ivory Coast and Mozambique in Group F for the Africa Cup of Nations, which runs from December 21 to January 18. Anguissa's absence would be a significant blow to the Indomitable Lions' campaign.

Napoli faces a challenging schedule without Anguissa, including Serie A matches against Atalanta, Roma, Juventus, and Udinese before Christmas. Additionally, they have Champions League fixtures against Qarabag and Benfica and domestic cup ties against Cremonese and AC Milan.

Anguissa will also miss Cameroon's World Cup qualifying play-off against DR Congo. The winner of this tie will compete against Nigeria or Gabon for a spot in next March's inter-confederation play-offs.

This injury not only affects Anguissa's international ambitions but also poses challenges for Napoli as they navigate crucial fixtures across multiple competitions. His recovery progress will be closely monitored by both club and country as they hope for his swift return to action.
