Bengaluru, August 25: Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-German (PSG) are reportedly negotiating a deal with Napoli to bring veteran goalkeeper Pepe Reina to France, according to reports in the local media.
The Spaniard has a contract with Napoli till 2018 and PSG want to make the most of the situation emanating from slowing down of talks between the Spaniard and the Serie A side offering him a € 3.5m-a-year deal.
The 34-year-old was also earlier rumoured to rejoin with his former manager Rafael Benitez at Newcastle United this summer and a bid of £7m was believed to be considered.
However, it is PSG who are believed to be the front runner in the race as manager Unai Emery wants the 34-year-old as the No.1 keeper, having lost faith in incumbent Kevin Trapp.
Napoli have already offered Reina a €2.5m-per-season pay to remain at Maurizio Sarri's side, however, the World Cup winner is said to have rejected that.
The Former Liverpool goalkeeper's agent also has confirmed the news and suggested that his client will not renew the contract with the Naples, fuelling the transfer speculation further.
"I can only say that PSG interest in Reina is real," Reina's agent Manuel Garcia Quilon told Fichajes.com.
"However, only the clubs can confirm whether there are any formal offers on the table.
"One thing is certain, he will not renew his contract."
But Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri considers Reina to be an important part of his future plans and has already proclaimed him untransferable.
And now whether the two clubs stike a deal remains to be seen, but should he leave, the Partenopei are reportedly expected to turn to Real Sociedad stopper Geronimo Rulli to fill that void.
