Napoli look to sign Barca winger Deulofeu

Spanish star Gerard Deulofeu could already be on his way out of Barcelona after reports have emerged that Napoli are looking to sign him.

Bengaluru, December 10: Just months after joining La Liga giants Barcelona, Spanish star Gerard Deulofeu could already be on his way out of his boyhood club after reports have emerged that Serie A side Napoli are looking for a possibility of signing the winger on loan in the January transfer window.

Deulofeu last year was on loan to Italian side AC Milan from Everton where he shone and registered an impressive four goals and three assists to his name in 17 matches. Seeing his superb improvement his boyhood club Barcelona decided to bring him back this year at Catalonia and activated his buy-back clause to sign him again for 12 million euros.

But since his return to Camp Nou, the winger has been used as a fringe player and despite registering an impressive two goals and three assists in 16 competitive games for Barcelona he is yet to find a consistent starting role under new boss Ernesto Valverde as he made only five starts.
The winger is currently behind Rakitic in the pecking order who this season has been deployed in the wing and with Ousmane Dembele closing in on a return to fitness, the former Everton man may find it even harder to secure game time in future. And now as per Rai Sport, the 23-year-old now is open to a switch in order to get more regular playing time and eager to revive his career in Italy where he was a standout in last season, with Napoli the potential suitors.

Napoli, on the other hand, is currently short of wingers in their squad after boss Sarri rejuvenated winger Dries Mertens as their main central forward which only leaves them with two main first-team choices, Jose Callejon and Lorenzo Insigne. Thus signing the youngster who can play in both the wings and is a phenomenon in attacking build-up, can well be suited to Sarri's attacking gameplay and will surely strengthen the balance of the team who are mounting a big title challenge this season after nearly two decades.
