Napoli Seal Top-four Finish With Routine 3-0 Win Over Pisa
Napoli confirmed a top-four finish in Serie A with a controlled 3-0 victory away to Pisa, sealing a place in next season’s Champions League. The result, combined with Juventus losing to Fiorentina, left Antonio Conte’s team five points clear with one match left.
Scott McTominay scored his 10th league goal of the campaign and Rasmus Hojlund also found the net. Amir Rrahmani added another as Napoli ended a mixed recent run. Pisa, already relegated, slipped to an eighth consecutive defeat and stayed bottom.

McTominay’s opener arrived midway through the first half at Arena Garibaldi. Hojlund received possession before feeding McTominay on the edge of the area, and McTominay guided a low finish past Pisa goalkeeper Adrian Semper to put Napoli in front.
The visitors struck again six minutes later from a set piece. Eljif Elmas delivered a deep corner towards the far post. Rrahmani rose above the defence and directed a firm header beyond Semper, giving Napoli a two-goal cushion before the interval.
Pisa created a clear opening in first-half stoppage time. Filip Stojilkovic met a cross from close range, yet Alex Meret reacted sharply and pushed the ball away at the far post. That stop removed the hosts’ momentum heading into the second period.
Conte’s side then managed the game with little trouble after the restart. Napoli dominated possession and limited Pisa to half chances. In the final moments, substitute Pasquale Mazzocchi drove a low ball across goal, and Hojlund converted from close range for 3-0.
Napoli Serie A numbers highlight control and Pisa slide
The match underlined McTominay’s growing influence in Serie A. The midfielder reached double figures for league goals for the second straight Napoli season, matching a feat previously achieved in the last 90 years only by Marek Hamsik, who managed it four times.
Napoli’s performance was also strong in the underlying data. The visitors exceeded their 1.08 expected goals and attempted 770 passes, the highest total by any team in a single Serie A match this season. Pisa produced just 0.8 expected goals in response.
| Team | Score | Expected goals (xG) | Passes attempted |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pisa | 0 | 0.8 | – |
| Napoli | 3 | 1.08 | 770 |
Pisa’s defeat continued a difficult campaign. The club extended its longest losing streak in Serie A to eight games. This was also Pisa’s 13th home loss of the season, equalling the worst figure across the top 10 European leagues; only Pescara, with 14 in 2012-13, have suffered more in one Italian top-flight season.
Napoli left Arena Garibaldi with only a second win from six league outings, yet the timing proved important. Champions League qualification is secure, McTominay achieved another scoring landmark, and Conte can approach the final league fixture with less pressure.
