Napoli Welcomes David Neres In A £23.8m Move From Benfica

David Neres has moved to Napoli from Benfica for £23.8m, potentially rising to £25.5m with add-ons. The Brazilian aims to enhance Napoli's attack alongside Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

David Neres has officially transferred from Benfica to Napoli, as confirmed by the Serie A club on Wednesday. The Brazilian forward, who netted 17 goals during his two-year tenure with the Portuguese team, joined for a reported fee of €23.8 million, which could rise to €25.5 million with add-ons.

Neres contributed significantly to Benfica's success last season, registering 15 goal involvements—five goals and ten assists. His efforts helped Benfica secure second place in the Primeira Liga and win the Portuguese Super Cup. Additionally, he created 31 chances and completed 34 dribbles in the league.

Neres Joins Napoli for £23.8m

The 27-year-old winger will bolster Napoli's attack alongside Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Last season, Napoli scored 55 goals in Serie A, which was 34 fewer than champions Inter. Neres' creativity and goal-scoring ability are expected to enhance Napoli's offensive capabilities.

Neres is Napoli's third signing of the transfer window, following Alessandro Buongiorno and Rafa Marin. The club is also anticipated to finalize a deal for Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku soon. These additions aim to strengthen the squad after failing to defend their Serie A title last season.

In terms of individual performance, Neres' dribbling stats were impressive, with only Joao Neves (41), Rafa (51), and Angel Di Maria (55) completing more dribbles in the league. His ability to create opportunities and navigate through defenses will be crucial for Napoli.

Upcoming Fixtures

Napoli will kick off their league campaign this Sunday against Bologna at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. The team hopes to start strong as they aim to reclaim their Serie A crown this season.

"David is proud to be one of us!" read a tweet from SSC Napoli's official account, welcoming Neres to the team.

Neres' arrival is seen as a strategic move by Napoli to inject more creativity and firepower into their wide positions. His track record at Benfica demonstrates his potential impact on the team's performance in the upcoming season.
