Nelson Semedo Confirms Departure From Wolves As Free Agent After Successful Tenure

Nelson Semedo has announced his decision to leave Wolves as a free agent after his contract ends in June. He played a crucial role in helping the team avoid relegation from the Premier League in the 2024-25 season. Appointed captain midway through the campaign, he led Wolves to a 16th-place finish under Vitor Pereira, with a record six-match winning streak securing their safety.

Wolves had reportedly offered Semedo a lucrative four-year deal, which would have placed him among the club's top earners. Despite this, he was linked with Benfica and Besiktas, indicating his departure was anticipated for some time. The club had identified Spain Under-21 full-back Marc Pubill as a potential replacement, but Atletico Madrid signed him instead for 20 million.

During his tenure at Wolves, Semedo became an integral part of the squad after joining from Barcelona for 27 million in 2021. Although his first season in England was challenging, he quickly established himself as a key player. Last season, he missed only four league matches and contributed four assists over 34 appearances.

The club now faces the task of finding replacements for both right wing-back and left wing-back positions. With Ki-Jana Hoever, Rodrigo Gomes, and Pedro Lima available on the right side, they are also searching for someone to fill Rayan Ait-Nouri's spot after his move to Manchester City.

In an Instagram post, Semedo expressed gratitude for his five years at Wolves: "The time has arrived and I want to thank you all for these five years, and tell you that you made grow so much as an athlete and as a person," he wrote. He emphasized his dedication to representing the club well and cherished leading it as captain.
