Netherlands Vs Germany: A Thrilling 2-2 Draw In Nations League Action

The Netherlands and Germany played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in their second Nations League Group A3 fixture in Amsterdam. Goals from Deniz Undav and Joshua Kimmich saw Julian Nagelsmann's side fight back after falling behind to Tijjani Reijnders' early strike. Denzel Dumfries levelled the score five minutes into the second half, keeping both teams locked on four points.

The hosts made a lightning start at the Johan Cruyff Arena. Ryan Gravenberch slid a neat through ball to Reijnders, who scored past Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The Oranje had chances to extend their lead, with Dumfries heading Xavi Simons' free-kick wide and Ter Stegen denying Simons shortly after.

Netherlands-Germany End 2-2

Germany capitalised on the Netherlands' missed opportunities. Florian Wirtz's close-range effort was parried by Bart Verbruggen, but Undav volleyed home the rebound. Shortly after, Nathan Ake was carried off on a stretcher following a clash with Kimmich.

Dumfries made a crucial intervention to deny David Raum as Germany gained momentum. They took the lead three minutes into first-half stoppage time. Undav steered Raum's cross back into the centre for Kimmich to score from close range.

Second Half Action

The Netherlands started the second half strongly. Brian Brobbey was played in behind by Simons, and his cutback was turned home by Dumfries to make it 2-2 after 50 minutes. Ter Stegen kept out Gravenberch's long-range strike, while Raum sent a header over from a good position.

Neither side could find a winner despite several attempts. The match ended in a stalemate, reflecting the competitive nature of both teams.

Undav's Impact

Deniz Undav has been impressive since moving from Brighton to Stuttgart on loan ahead of the 2023-24 season. He scored 18 goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances last term, helping Sebastian Hoeness' team finish as runners-up. On Tuesday, he made his first start for Germany and became the first player since Amin Younes in 2017 to both score and assist on their debut.

Ronald Koeman's side suffered a significant injury blow late in the first half when Manchester City's Nathan Ake was substituted due to an apparent foot injury.

This match showcased resilience from both teams and highlighted key players like Undav making significant impacts early in their international careers.
