Noa Lang Injury Setback Sidelines Netherlands Against Norway After Hand Surgery

Noa Lang will miss the Netherlands' friendly with Norway due to hand surgery, with Koeman also monitoring Frenkie de Jong and other key players ahead of the Ecuador match. Lang's condition follows a freak incident during Galatasaray's loss in the Champions League. The squad aims to regroup for the World Cup preparations.

The Netherlands will be without several regulars for the upcoming friendly against Norway, as injuries affect Ronald Koeman’s squad. Noa Lang is ruled out for that match after hand surgery, though Netherlands staff hope for a quick return ahead of Ecuador.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong misses this international window with a hamstring problem, further weakening the Netherlands midfield options. Memphis Depay is still battling for full fitness, while Matthijs de Ligt and Jurrien Timber continue separate recovery programmes after recent issues.

Emmanuel Emegha, Justin Kluivert and reserve goalkeeper Robin Roefs are also unavailable this month, leaving Koeman short of depth in several positions. Despite these setbacks, the Netherlands remain focused on maintaining rhythm before the World Cup, using the Norway and Ecuador fixtures as key tests.

Noa Lang received a Netherlands call-up last Friday, even though Lang left the pitch injured in Galatasaray’s 4-0 Champions League defeat to Liverpool two days earlier. During that match, Lang’s hand became trapped between two pitchside advertising boards at Anfield, causing significant damage.

The incident led to immediate surgery at a hospital on Merseyside, with medical staff acting quickly. Lang, currently on loan at Turkish Super Lig club Galatasaray from Italian side Napoli, later addressed followers on social media. The message included the brief caption "s*** happens", signalling Lang’s determination to move on.

The Netherlands face Norway at Johan Cruijff Arena on Friday, their first meeting since a 2021 World Cup qualifier. The Oranje won that previous encounter 2-0, and Koeman will want another controlled display, even with several experienced players missing through injury concerns.

Attention then turns to Ecuador next Tuesday, another friendly that forms part of preparations for the World Cup. The Netherlands are building towards their Group F opener against Japan on June 14, and Lang’s potential return for that Ecuador match would offer Koeman an attacking boost.
